Special Ed and Dyslexia: Eligibility Under SLD Category

Do you have a struggling reader and suspect Dyslexia? Or has your student been diagnosed with Dyslexia and are you wondering about the next steps with the school to see if they are eligible for Special Education? This presentation will be covering eligibility determinations under the Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) category of IDEA, what families want to ask for in their student's evaluations, and resources families can use when navigating SLD eligibility.

About the Presenter:

Heather Schwindt is a Special Education Advocate in the Puget Sound region specializing in the area of Dyslexia/SLD. She is a Certified Wired for Reading Specialist, as well as a parent of two students with Specific Learning Disabilities. Heather is a member of the Seattle Special Education PTSA, Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA), and serves as a member of the Decoding Dyslexia Washington State leadership team, and on OSPI's SLD Workgroup.
