Caregiver Tips -
Here are some items to consider when seeking dyslexia support from an outside provider:
-
Determine what you are seeking a diagnosis for - is it the right provider for this need?
Ensure the diagnosis will be accepted by your school.
Check the provider's credentials for the state you live in.
-
Is the intervention Orton-Gillingham based?
Do they use structured literacy (Science of Reading) principles?
Is the provider qualified as a teacher or SLP?
Do they claim to cure dyslexia? If yes, it's best to avoid. Dyslexia doesn't disappear naturally or with age. With the right support, people with dyslexia can learn to read proficiently.
