Champions for Dyslexia is a regional knowledge-sharing initiative by the INW Dyslexia Alliance for adults supporting those with dyslexia.

  • Led by: Gina McGlocklin, Special Education Teacher, and Heather Thoburn, School Psychologist

    Date/Time: Thurs, Feb 5th - Educators: 4-5pm; Caregivers: 5-6pm
Location: Hillyard Library Events Room (4110 N. Cook Street Spokane, WA 99207)

Educators: This workshop will provide you with a practical overview of IEPs and 504 Plans, clarifying roles, rights, and responsibilities throughout the process. Gain strategies for writing clear, data-driven goals and using progress reports to connect instruction to measurable outcomes—helping every student move forward with clarity and purpose.

Parents and Caregivers: Build confidence as advocates by clarifying the purpose, rights, and responsibilities within IEPs and 504 Plans. Learn how to interpret and evaluate goal writing and progress reports, feeling empowered to collaborate effectively with educators and ensure that goals are measurable, meaningful, and aligned with your child’s strengths and needs.

Free and open to the public — no registration required.

Please note the intended audience for each workshop varies. Stay tuned for updates on future workshops.

  • No, each group will have its own leadership team, agenda, and meetings yet follow the same objectives listed above.

While there may be occasions when all groups get together, the majority of our gatherings will remain distinct and separate.

  • We will indicate when Educator clock hours are available for our workshops.

  • SPS Educators: INW Dyslexia Alliance workshops count for PERT hours. (If you’re with another district, check with your office to see if they offer the same.)
