Champions for Dyslexia

Regional Community

Empowering Educators. Strengthening Communities. Supporting Students.

Champions for Dyslexia is a program of the INW Dyslexia Alliance, a regional nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals, families, and professionals build knowledge, access resources, and grow confidence in supporting dyslexia.

  • We believe that when people are equipped with support and understanding, they become champions in their classrooms, homes, workplaces, and communities. Through this program, our goal is to grow the number of champions supporting students with dyslexia in our schools and across our community.

  • Champions for Dyslexia supports educators and professionals serving students with dyslexia across the Inland Northwest through financial assistance, professional guidance, learning opportunities, and community connection grounded in Science of Reading best practices.

Together, we are building a stronger, more informed community where individuals with dyslexia can thrive.

  • Champions for Dyslexia is designed for Pre-K–12 professionals who support students with dyslexia and other literacy challenges, including classroom teachers, reading specialists, special education staff, speech-language pathologists, school counselors, psychologists, paraeducators, ELD/ESL educators, gifted education staff, homeschool educators, and administrators.

All professionals, whether new or experienced, are welcome.

How INWDA Supports Champions

We provide support for educators and school-based professionals through funding, professional guidance, learning opportunities, and community engagement, all grounded in Science of Reading practices and focused on improving outcomes for students with dyslexia.

  • Provides funding for instructional materials, tools, and resources that support evidence-based literacy instruction. Support may also include implementation guidance from our committee or training when needed to strengthen student learning and data-informed practice.

  • Offers access to a regional network of experienced professionals who provide guidance on dyslexia, intervention, instruction, accommodations, and family communication.

Requests are submitted through a simple form and reviewed by a committee that provides tailored recommendations and next steps.

A private Facebook community also supports ongoing connection and peer collaboration.

  • Includes workshops, trainings, simulations, expert speakers, and networking opportunities focused on dyslexia and structured literacy, along with practical tools and current research for classroom use.

  • Provides opportunities to participate in outreach that increases awareness and connects families, educators, and community members with dyslexia resources through school and community events, campaigns, volunteer opportunities, and presentations.
